The batter on the fish is light yet flavorful, making each bite a delight. Customers rave about the generous portion sizes—never leaving with an empty stomach. The mushy peas receive high praise for being perfectly made, not overly seasoned and retaining that pure pea taste, just as traditional recipes dictate.
The atmosphere also contributes to its appeal; regular patrons appreciate the ability to chat with the owners while enjoying their meals, fostering a friendly environment. Some customers have pointed out that, during peak hours, service may slow down. While the staff maintains their friendly demeanor, longer wait times can affect the overall experience. However, the quality of the food often compensates for this slight inconvenience.
A few diners noted that the shop does not accept all payment forms; although card payments are welcome, those reliant on cash might encounter challenges. Moreover, while most dishes receive accolades, a handful of items like the battered chocolate or spam may not suit everyone’s palate, highlighting that preferences can vary widely.
Entering this highly rated chippy, it was instantly clear how much the owners loved what they were doing. The shop was clean and tidy, and the owners, who were serving, were warm, friendly, and all smiles. I ordered the cod and chips, which were a very generous portion. The fish was coated in a light, crispy, and tasty batter, but the fish itself stole the show, delicious and fresh, with a lovely white, flaky texture. The chips were mainly crispy on the outside with a fluffy centre. The mushy peas were just right, thick and not over-seasoned, leaving the pure pea taste. What drew me here was the claim of the “Biggest John Bull in Blackburn”, and it was big, for sure, and that savoury Angus beef between the potato slices was incredible, all surrounded by that light crispy batter. Overall, this chippy has friendly owners who take pride in their work, and they serve great traditional chip shop fare at fantastically low prices. 🟠 Cooking in: Oil 🟠 Payment: Cash or Card 🟠 Hygiene Rating: 4 🟠 Fish Reviewed: Cod 🎥 See the full video review on The Chippy Tour YouTube channel
From the guy from New Zealand who visited a couple of weeks ago. What a great chippy, run by a great guy and his team. We picked it due to its rating and that it was a proper chippy, not something else that sold chips too, and was on our journey out of Accrington to the motorway. I wasn’t disappointed, beauty chips, eaten with a Hollands meat pie. The chat was great so I decided to eat in and carry on chatting. So glad I did too. Great food, lots of regular chippy food plus some nice extra’s like Samosa’s and a massive home made sausage roll. Which was great. Shared it with my son. The kind of place you smile about having been there, chatted and eaten. When I’m next up that way it will be too of the list to visit and eat again. Thanks team, great food, lovely team, great experience. Visitor from New Zealand, Martin
Double stacker Chicken burger, chicken was fresh, juicy and flavourful better then most chicken shops around, same with the chips fresh and tasty, overall made me very full and satisfied , lots of option on the menu aswell would definitely recommend as its hard to find a good chippy in Blackburn ( have also been told they sell the best john bulls so will have to give a go next time)
The most amazing and fresh food, at reasonable prices. The staff always have a smile on their face and make you feel so welcome. I’d drive from anywhere just to have this for my dinner! It’s the best place in Blackburn ❤️
Where shall I start a HIDDEN GEM in Blackburn. Did not know this place existed until I did a search on Google for fish and chips takeaways near me. Was at the top of the list. After reading reviews I thought I'd give it try. The atmosphere was relaxing having a place to sit in and it felt like home. 70s classics on in the background 👌. The service was exceptional. Talking to the chap behind the counter felt like meeting an old friend. The rest of the staff were very polite and could have a laugh with them. The quality of the food was exquisite and the taste even better 😋. Fresh crispy fish, well battered and seasoned and the perfect chips to go with them. Cooked well no hard bits in them. Could not fault a thing. This is now my go to for fish and chips. Normally travel to Preston for mother hubbards. But this is now my place to go. 👌👌👌👌👌
Very friendly and bubbly people. Very tasty fish and chips and a sausage for the dog. We got scraps and a drizzle of gravy to top it off.
Visited a few weeks ago, just as they were getting ready to close, (I didn’t know this) and they put a fresh portion of chips in the fryer for me, obviously had a bit of wait but didn’t mind as the food was the freshest and also very good portion sizes. Also found it very good value for money, we ordered two large chips (very generous portions) 2 pies, a dab a large mushy peas (which were absolutely lovely, proper chippy peas) and a large gravy and it came to £15 which for 2 people for a takeaway tea we found very good value for money. The staff are absolutely lovely too, nothing is too much trouble for them (as stated by putting fresh chips in before closing) and we got a free sausage each as it was ready for closing, it was our second visit and I think it is now going to be our go to chippy. Can’t wait to visit again soon.
